What happened?

China’s A share markets fell during the week to Friday 20 July. The SSE Composite, the SZSE Component and the CSI 300 indices dropped by 0.79%, 4.69% and 2.13% respectively.  Of the major Shenyin & Wanguo (SW) sector indices, financials – alone – rose last week. In complete contrast to recent weeks, defensive sectors such as pharmaceuticals and (especially) food & beverages were conspicuous underperformers.
